Classical Music

in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Welcome to Virginia’s Blue Ridge Music Festival, centered in beautiful Floyd County.

Our focus is on music education, especially the support of local young people, and on broadening our region’s musical richness by making classical music and a blend of classical and Appalachian heritage styles affordable and available in our community – in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

Home for the Holidays

The musicians are extraordinary for this special afternoon concert of classical and holiday favorites. David Stewart Wiley, Music Director and Conductor of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra. Wiley also enjoys a special relationship with Virginia’s Blue Ridge Music Festival as Artistic Director. He performs and conducts several concerts in Floyd each year including a large festival in June. Maestro Wiley will be performing
on piano with two well-known professional musicians.

Phillip Bouknight, Bass, has an extensive performance history. He performed title roles in Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Jesus in Bach’s St. John Passion, Verdi’s Requiem, just to name a few. He made his Roanoke Symphony debut singing the bass solos in Handel’s Messiah.

Ms. Akemi Takayama has been the concertmaster for the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra since 2004 and the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra since 2008. Her captivating melodies have resonated in concert halls across Japan, France, China, and the U.S. Ms. Takayama has been praised by the legendary violinist Isaac Stern as “a true musician who will always bring credit to any group that she works with”.

David Stewart Wiley, Artistic Director said it best:  “I and we look forward to sharing our music with friends at this special program!  We will joyfully present classical favorites like Winter from Vivaldi’s The Four seasons, Greensleeves, and wintry masterworks by Debussy &
Rachmaninoff.  Plus, beloved holiday songs, and so much more.  We look forward to seeing
everyone there.”
