Throughout her career, pianist Dr. Deanne Vance has been active as a recitalist, chamber musician and teacher. She has been a faculty member at Eastern Michigan University, the University of Michigan, the University of Wisconsin, The Academy of Music at St. Francis in the Fields (Louisville KY) and has also taught privately. While in Louisville, she was the President of the Chamber Music Society and Managing Director of The Academy of Music at St. Francis in the Fields. She was a church organist/choir director for many years, has adjudicated at many festivals and competitions, and led master classes nationally and internationally.
Vance began her musical education in Grand Rapids MI. During high school, she won scholarships to the Interlochen National Music Camp for three summers, and at age 16, won a competition to play a concerto with the GR Youth Symphony Orchestra. At the University of Wisconsin she studied with the acclaimed Austrian pianist Paul Badura-Skoda. She also received her Master of Music degree in piano performance from Eastern Michigan University as a student of Dady Mehta and in 1983 received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the University of Michigan, having studied with Theodore Lettvin. Dr. Vance lives in Roanoke VA with her husband, Dr. Samuel F. Vance, a retired physician.
